October 16, 2010 Joint Meeting of Elders and Deacons
Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church
Called Session Meeting
Joint Meeting of Elders and Deacons
October 16, 2010
Attending Elders: Ford Heath, Ed Park, Michelle Morehouse, Vicky Raymond, Mindy Douglas Adams (moderator), Mary Donna Pond (clerk)
Attending Deacons: Amanda Briggs, Karen Fisher, Phyllis Greene, Karen Meredith, Bruce Raymond, Susan Walkup
The meeting was called to order at 11:45 a.m. by Mindy Douglas Adams, Moderator, and was held at Haw River State Park during the Officer Retreat. Mindy opened the meeting with prayer. A quorum was declared. This was the 2010 annual meeting of the Session and Board of Deacons.
There was spirited conversation about the need for communication between the Boards, particularly when the Session adopts policies and procedures that affect the Deacons. Michelle Morehouse moved that a representative from the Session be appointed to attend all meetings of the Deacons and that a Deacon be appointed to attend each Session meeting, both on a rotating basis so that different representatives have the opportunity to experience meetings and report. Ford seconded the motion which passed unopposed. Mary Donna and Mitzi will work together to identify the representative and communicate meeting times and places. The Session meets monthly, usually on the second Monday of the month; the Deacons meet every-other month on the third Monday. The next Deacon meeting is November 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Karen Meredith’s home. The next Session meeting is November 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Galloway Ridge.
Phyllis urged the Session and others to be prayerfully considering names for the Nominating Committee to consider for Elder and Deacon.
Mindy asked whether the Officer Retreat should continue to be held as an overnight event, away from home. There was general agreement that such an event has much merit. Mindy will survey the entire Session and Board of Deacons for further feedback.
Karen Fisher agreed to write a brief report of the retreat for the next issue of the newsletter.
Vicky moved that the meeting be adjourned; Ford seconded, and the meeting was adjourned following prayer at 12:10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Donna Pond, Clerk
