Called Session Meeting, July 25, 2011 – 212 E. Rosemary St., Chapel Hill NC

Attending:  Elders Lynne Hoerter, Marcia Ladd, Cindy Massey, Michelle Morehouse, Vicky Raymond, Jerry Wehmueller, Mary Donna Pond (Clerk), and the Rev. Mitzi Lesher-Thomas (Moderator)

Guest:  Jan Rickard, chair, Memorial Garden Committee

 

The meeting was called to order by Mitzi Lesher-Thomas at 4:00 p.m.  She declared a quorum to be present and led the opening prayer.  Mitzi stated the purpose of the meeting was to consider a contract for landscape architecture service for the memorial garden and to authorize expenditure of funds for the planning and creation of the garden.  She recognized Jan Rickard, chair of the Memorial Garden Committee, who explained the terms of the contract, which was a slightly revised version of an original contract.  Copies of the revised were distributed.  Furthermore Jan stated that a generous donor has already given the church funds for the garden and plans to give additional funds soon.  Jan made a motion, from committee, that the revised contract be approved.  The motion passed unopposed.

Cindy moved that the chair of the Memorial Garden Committee be authorized by the Session to spend funds deposited in the Memorial Garden Fund.  Lynne seconded the motion which passed unanimously.

Jan entertained questions about the timetable for constructing the garden, the details of the plans, and thoughts about use of the garden, fees, recording of names, etc.  The committee will continue to work on these matters and bring to the Session recommendations for Session approval.

Marcia reiterated the importance of holding in confidence names and amounts of gifts that are given to the church.

Lynne moved that the meeting be adjourned and the motion passed.  Mitzi closed the meeting with prayer.  The meeting ended at 4:50 p.m.
