Called Session Meeting, January 21, 2012 – Chapel in the Pines Library
Attending: Elders Lynne Hoerter, Cindy Massey, Vicky Raymond, Rachel Stevens, John Walkup, Jerry Wehmueller, Mary Donna Pond (Clerk), and the Rev. Mindy Douglas Adams (Moderator).
The meeting was called to order by Mindy Douglas Adams at 9:30 a.m. She led the opening prayer. She stated the purpose of the meeting was to act on a request from the Remembrance Garden Task Force, a copy of which had been distributed prior to the meeting.
Cindy expressed concerns over allowing the use of the church name, image, etc. by a company that is new and could possibly not produce good work. Modifications to the motion from the task force were suggested such as making the agreement null and void in the event of change of ownership, bankruptcy, or if the quality of the workmanship was unacceptable. Ultimately, however, the session agreed that even with modifications, allowing a company to use the church’s name and images of the church was too risky. The question was called and the vote was unanimous to deny the advertising request.
A discussion about the appearance of the columbaria structures followed with several voicing their concern that the photos and stand-alone structure were different from the original design the Session approved in July 2011. Several expressed a desire for in-ground containers rather than above-ground, or at least imbedded in a hillside or berm. Other members also expressed concern over the aesthetic of the stand alone structure. It was suggested that the chair and others on the task force be invited to the next Session meeting to hear the Session’s thoughts and concerns.
Jerry moved that the meeting be adjourned; Lynne seconded; the motion passed unopposed. Mindy closed the meeting with prayer the meeting ended at 10:10 a.m.
