Stated Session Meeting, December 19, 2016

Attending:  Ruling Elders Heather Bogan, Lynne Hoerter, Maggie Reif, Terry Rudolph, Al Schalk, Barbara Strange, Teaching Elder Rev. Lynn Stall (Moderator), Jerry Wehmueller (treasurer), Marcia Ladd (clerk)

Absent: Karen Atkins, Kristin Lavergne, Maggie Reif, Butch Smith

Guests: Brandon Melton (intern)    

The meeting was called to order by Lynn Stall at 7 PM with a prayer. Pastoral concerns were shared.

Approval of agenda and consent agenda

The agenda and consent agendas were approved by common consent. The consent  agenda contains the following items:

  1. Approval of session minutes 11/21/16

  2. Approval of committee minutes  – Building and Grounds 12/1/16

  3. Correspondence – Letters to and from Chris Dengler, thank you from Communities in Schools, Transparency Request Karen Fisher, mail from Mitzi

Pastor’s Report

Lynn talked about how well received the Lessons and Carols service was. Lynn expressed her gratitude for Brandon and how he has stepped into the children’s education program. Barbara talked about the transition team and their upcoming events with parents of young children and the entire congregation. There was a consensus that a rough time line for the transition should be developed and shared.

Committee reports

Finance

Jerry went over the November financial reports, revenues were up from the month before, expenses were below budget, resulting in a slight surplus. Revenues are below year to date, but he anticipates being a little ahead for the end of the year.

Fellowship Hall Update

The building permit was granted earlier today, and construction will start this week.

Membership

Barbara offered the following motion from membership

that at her request Cindy McWilliams be removed from the CITP rolls.

The motion was approved by common consent.

Mission and Service

In Maggie’s absence, Lynn presented the following motion from mission and service

to re-designate the local portion of the Peace and Global Witness Offering to CORE (Chatham Organizing for Racial Equity).

Lynn indicated a description of CORE can be found in the pre-session packet. With minimal discussion, the motion passed unanimously.

New Business

Lynn indicated a determination needed to be made about the Christmas Eve offering, which has typically gone to the pastor’s discretionary fund.

Lynne moved

that the Christmas Eve offering be designated for the Pastor’s discretionary fund

Heather seconded it, the motion passed unanimously.

Lynn reminded session members they will be asked to contribute to the annual report in January.

Lord’s Supper, Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals

Since the previous stated meeting November 21, there have been no new members, the Lord’s Supper was celebrated once on December 4. There were no weddings, baptisms or funerals.

The next stated session meeting will be January 16 at the 7PM. Butch Smith will lead the devotion.

As the business of the meeting was concluded, Lynn closed with prayer at 7:30PM.
