April 2008 Congregational Meeting

Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church
Congregational Meeting
April 27, 2008 – North Chatham School

The meeting, incorporated as a part of the morning worship services, was called to order by Organizing Pastor, Rev. Mindy Douglas Adams, at 11:35 a.m. after which she led the congregation in prayer.

Mindy explained that the purpose of the meeting was to accept the report of the Nominating Committee, to elect Elders and Deacons, and to approve the terms of call for our Pastor. She recognized the members of the Nominating Committee: Nathan Campbell, Pat Chappell, Bart Holtz, Harriet McGraw (chair), and Bryan McWilliams. She invited Harriet McGraw to come forward and present the slate of nominees.

Harriet thanked the committee. She asked the following to come forward as nominees for Elder:

Through 2008: Marcia Ladd, Michelle Morehouse, John Walkup
Through 2009: Stan Campbell, Lynne Hoerter, Wes McGraw
Through 2010: Stephanie Miller, Ed Park, Chuck Rickard

Harriet invited the nominees for the Board of Deacons forward.

Through 2008: Edith Dengler, Susan Walkup, Lee Werley
Through 2009: Butch Smith, Lu Stephenson, Joan Zollinger
Through 2010: Phyllis Greene, Bruce Raymond, Chris Rickard

Each nominee then gave a brief statement of their sense of calling to service as a Deacon. Following the comments, Mindy thanked the nominees and invited nominations from the floor. There being none, a motion was made and seconded that the nominations be closed. The motion passed. She then asked approval of the nominees and they were elected without dissent.

Before proceeding, Mindy asked approval of Mary Donna Pond serving as Clerk for the meeting, which was given without objection. The next order of business was approval of the terms of call for our Pastor. Mindy invited Stan Campbell to come forward to serve as Moderator for this part of the meeting. Bryan McWilliams moved that Stan be elected to take over the meeting as Moderator, the motion was seconded and passed unanimously. Mindy left the meeting and Stan invited the Personnel Committee forward to make the motion. Mary Donna Pond explained that Mindy had been called to serve as Organizing Pastor in early 2006 following a thorough search which included consideration of several candidates. Mindy has been working for the Presbytery up to this time and now that we are a chartered church, the time has come to call her as our Pastor and to approve the continuation of her present Terms of Call. Since the motion came from a committee, no second was required. Stan asked for approval of the motion and it passed without dissent.

Mindy returned (to applause) and closed the meeting with a benediction. The congregation sang a closing response. The meeting was adjourned at 12:20 p.m.

Respectfully submitted, Mary Donna Pond, Clerk
