A CHAT ABOUT OUR CHAPEL By Ed Mammen - May 23, 2010

Good Morning!  This is a very special day in the life of our church.  Just as May 4th, 2008, our Charter Sunday was a very special day  -  when we officially became The Chapel in the Pines, when many of us became charter members, and when Minday was installed as our minister.  Just think of all we have accomplished since then:  not only has our congregation almost doubled, but also, thanks to God, and with help from the Salem Presbytery, and your commitment, we have found land for our church, bought it, and approved a building plan.  I find this amazing!  In less than 24 months this small congregation has accomplished all this!  In my long lifetime I have belonged to much larger congregations, during much more prosperous times, yet never witnessed anything like this.  In less than 2 year, The Chapel in the Pines owns it pines, now it is time to build our chapel.  Over the next 3 weeks you’ll see and hear those words often:  “We have the pines, it’s time to build our chapel.”   “We have the pines,  it’s time to build our chapel !”

At our luncheon today you’ll hear a bit more about how we will build our chapel.  And as you leave the cafeteria room you’ll see a basket of pine cones.  We encourage you to take one home with you.  Now they aren’t just any old pines cones.  They are our pine cones, from our land.  If you return it with your pledge on Commitment Sunday, June 13th, our committee will take it back to our  land, to lie there until land clearing begins prior to breaking ground for our chapel.  In the weeks ahead, as you think about and pray about your pledge, your pine cone will remind you that the Chapel in the Pines already has it’s pines, now it’s time to build the chapel.

Thank you.
