Building Update - April 2011

During the month of March a lot of work was taking place behind the scenes. The first order of business was to apply to Chatham County for a permit to begin site work. As part of the permit application, the county required an Environmental Impact Assessment.  We received bids from three engineers. The prices ranged from $6500 to $15,500.  Thanks to encouragement from Fred Royal, our member who works with the county, Bruce Raymond undertook the task of soliciting input from other professionals who are working on our project and the EIA report was completed in house at no cost to Chapel in the Pines.  This not only saved us money but also time.

At long last, our site permit application was approved and work commenced on April 18, 2011.  The initial task was to prepare the land to limit soil erosion.

As of May 6, 2011 this work is still in progress.  Tree removal is scheduled to begin the second week in May.

In the February update, it was reported that the 900+/- square foot reduction in the size of our building was being done to save $120,000. Since that report, C T Wilson reported to us that upon review, the savings would actually be $67,000.

As the construction process continues, Bruce Raymond, a member of our congregation, will be meeting on site once a week with C T Wilson's  project manager and our architect, Keith Shaw.  We are very blessed to have someone with Bruce's skills to represent Chapel in the Pines during construction.

Finally, our contract with C T Wilson should be approved by Session and signed during the second week in May.
