Deacon Defined (From Book of Order, G-2.0201):
“The ministry of deacon as set forth in Scriptureeis one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress. Persons of spiritual character, honest repute, exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, sincere compassion, and sound judgment should be chosen for this ministry.”
The Deacons of the Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church keep the church members informed by using the Shepherd Program. The Shepherd Program is designed to be a line of communication to the members and friends of the Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church, as well as a means by which the church can extend care and concern to its people. All members and friends of the church have been assigned a Deacon (Shepherd). The purpose of the Shepherd is to communicate to you important events, announcements, concerns of the church community and to be concerned about you and your needs within the church community. The strength and consolation of being in the care of Christ and his earthly church is indeed empowering. It is the hope of the Deacons that this program will be a nurturing one and that the church community will be blessed by the communication, care and concern offered through the program. Below is a list of each deacon and the members of the church under his/her care.
